Growing up, my mother's home cooking was one of the only connections that I had to our Korean heritage. As a 2nd generation Korean American kid, I had very few clear ties to my ancestral lineage - the most influential being dishes she made at home.

I'm certain that my mother was cooking the food that felt like home to her; from memory and cravings from her upbringing.

Like any one in the Korean diaspora, my mother used the ingredients that were available to her, utilizing the essentials to create dishes that reflected the feeling and taste of home.

All the while, creating a new home in a foreign place.

Yoli Pantry is a nod to my ancestral ties to Korea, but with an American perspective. Yoli 요리 (“to cook”), and Pantry (essential kitchen goods)
